Greetings
Chairman Masafumi Kondo, MD, PhD.
Fujita Health University Clinical Professor,
Department of Respiratory Medicine I Director of Clinical Trials and Clinical Research Support Center

Since March 2020, I have had the honor of being appointed as the Chairman of the NPO Central Japan Lung Study Group (CJLSG). I am currently involved in supporting clinical research at Fujita Health University Clinical Trials and Clinical Research Support Center.

It is a great honor to be entrusted with the role of Chairman of the research organization. CJLSG was established in 2003 by Professor Emeritus Kaoru Shimokata of Nagoya University as an NPO to contribute broadly to society by developing methods for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of respiratory diseases, gathering information on treatment effects, and engaging in public relations activities. Since then, we have conducted numerous clinical studies with this corporation as the parent body. Currently, we operate the research organization with the participation of faculty members from the Departments of Respiratory Medicine and Surgery at Nagoya University, Gifu University, Mie University, Aichi Medical University, and Fujita Health University, as well as many hospitals in the Tokai region.

Through clinical research, we believe we have been able to improve respiratory care in this region. Initially, we learned and conducted clinical research on a shoestring budget, but in recent years, with the enactment of the Clinical Research Act, etc., the transparency and scientific validity of trials have been increasingly demanded.

We have established a system that can comply with the Clinical Research Act by strengthening collaboration with AROs, allowing participation in research by non-member facilities, and closely coordinating with other research groups, and we continue to conduct clinical research.

We also work closely with patient associations, sending lecturers and providing advice on booklet creation, among other activities. I believe that the exchange with patient associations and clinical research can help young member doctors grow beyond their clinical practice to become broader and more excellent clinicians and researchers.

It is difficult for a single institution to conduct clinical education and trials, and our organization supports the teachers who are members of this region as a group.
